Be Summer Ready With Me!

i'm very inspired after flipping through some japanese magazines, so i put together some outfit ideas, hopefully it'll give you some inspiration to spruce up your outfits this summer!

-ONE-

WHITE ON WHITE

summer isn't just about neon colours! pair a loose white with white boyfriend jeans if you're not afraid of dirtying them. put on some brightly coloured accessories such as the bold statement necklace to create a focal point for the look. you can choose any colour as the focal colour (since every colour goes with white). i opted for one single focal colour and went for a striking hot pink for bags and makeup to tie the look together.

-TWO-

CASUAL SUNDAYS

bust out your slip-ons as they're back in fashion. even if they're not in trend, the shoes goes so perfectly with rolled up jeans anyway! pairing a cropped top with a loose flannel will keep you warm and tone down the sexiness of the cropped top. the focus of this look is obviously the futuristic metallic bag and shoe. small handbags are perfect for days when you just need to carry your lip gloss and some money with you. colour block orange with cyan for an added flavour of summer to the otherwise colour neutral look.

-THREE-

DRESSY FLORALS

summer is the best time to experiment with bold prints. i used the floral skirt as the main focus and build the look around it, hence the understated striped top. as the skirt is already so colourful, i kept the colour of bags and accessories to a single colour so as to not draw attention away too much. jewelleries are kept to a minimum because the shoes are already such an attention seeker.

-FOUR-

TIME MACHINE

i drew a lot of reference to the 90s for this look - the cropped top, high waisted denim shorts, platform shoes, heart shaped sunglasses, and the iconic choker. i replaced oversized blousons with a floral kimono to soften the look a little. in my mind, the perfect makeup that will go so well with this look is a clean face with simple black cat liner and red lips.

BOHO CHIC

this look was inspired by the coachella music festival from a while ago. off shoulder fluffy tops are the epitome of coachella i guess! pair it with denim shorts and converse for a more urban feel. i always link orange to summer, probably because it reminds me of sun kissed cheeks. complete the look with a pair of sunnies and a black bucket bag, it ups the boho factor.

BEFORE I END

style 2 is probably closest to my personal style since i'm more casual. i would love to try style 4 and 5, and i will definitely wear style 3 to my girlfriend's wedding. style 1 looks really good on magazines, but it irks me to think of how easily i'll attract stains, so it's a no go for me.

which would you like to try?

Are you sporting these fashion trends that men dislike?

in this article from huffington post, they highlighted 23 fashion trends that guys hate but women love. that includes peplum cuts, wedge sneakers, bright lipsticks, even leggings!?

in chinese there's an idiom that says "a girl dresses up for the person she adores".
that saying is so out dated, it doesn't fit in today's world anymore.

i'm telling you right now:
GIRLS SHOULD DRESS UP FOR OURSELVES.
who cares about what guys like or dislike?
i think the only rule we should live by is to like what we wear, feel comfortable in what we don on our body, and choose styles that is most suitable for ourselves.
why? here are 4 reasons:

first thing first, most guys know nothing about women's fashion.
it's just like how most girls barely know anything about cars. and a guy certainly won't choose a car using our standards!
as long as we look coordinated, it wouldn't trigger an alarm in the guy's brain.
let's face it, all the clothes look the same to guys, just like how all cars look the same to us (to me at the very least).
it's only fair to not expect them to understand how the high waisted skirt can elongate our body's silhouette, or how that pair of louboutins can lengthen our legs visually.
majority of the men are merely an audience who admire women's style as though they're looking at art pieces in the louvre - they'll go OOH that looks nice and then move on.

secondly, it's your confidence that guys latch on to, not the clothes on your body.
and where does confidence come from?
it comes from within - your acceptance of yourself, feeling comfortable with yourself, and affirmations from the external world (which mostly stemmed from the confidence you exude).
dressing for yourself will make sure you feel your best because your appearance is aligned with your own ideal.
there's really no point in wearing clothes that he likes, but you know very well how bad it'll look on you.

take for example, i know i don't look good in tube tops because it cuts into the fats around my armpit area and make me look like i have 4 boobs. just because a guy like tube top doesn't mean i have to put myself through that mental (and physical) discomfort! if i don't feel comfortable with my own appearance, i'll end up feeling awkward and NOT be myself. i know how i behave when i don't feel confident, i become less outgoing and proactive.

thirdly, who knows what suits us best other than ourselves?
well, i can tell you the secret to dressing well - choose whatever clothes that makes you feel most confident in.
ever wondered why some people can rock certain clothes well while you can't even though you both have the same body shape?
it's probably got something to do with how you feel!
if you feel like it makes you look good, it will make you look good.
if not, you'll just feel awkward and start acting all awkward too.
our behaviors reflect our inner state of mind, just make sure to let your true self shine through.

with that said, it's still important to choose clothes that suits you, one that will accentuate what you have and polish what you lack.

lastly, as the guy host in the video said..
"we don't like you in clothes".
nuff' said.

girls, please remember this by heart: you look most beautiful when you love yourself.
start loving yourself by aligning your ideals with reality by shifting both your ideals and reality towards each other.

you can thank me later :D

STYLEnLOOK #1 wedding lunch banquet

top: white sleeveless peplum top | H&M | SGD5 (on sale)
grey tank top (worn inside) | forever21 | HKD7 (during opening offer)
bottom: dusty pink pleated skirt with belt | some shop in shum shui po in HK | HKD45
shoes: black platform heels | taobao | RMB50
socks: black floral socks | H&M | HKD80 (3 pairs)
bag: pink handbag (copied celine's design) | taobao | RMB80
makeup: kate colorcious diamond look 3
hair: loose curls for texture

i paired the skirt and pulled it a little high waisted to elongate my legs. my hips are narrow (and therefore my waist is relatively wide in terms of my full body proportion). the addition of the belt will make my waist look a little smaller than it actually is. the cut of the peplum top fits me really well to accentuate the effect of the belt, giving me an overall slimmer effect.

i don't usually share my outfits, but i thought what i wore that day for my cousin's wedding looked kinda cool :) what's even cooler is.. my top and bottom adds up to less than SGD20/HKD100. as opposed to wearing a simple dress that day, i much prefer this softer look thanks to the colours on me. also, that flowy pleated skirt added like 50 lady points to me. SCORE!
